Weigh in. I don’t plan on stopping the blog anytime soon, but I found this column interesting.
Here’s what I think. Insightful: True. Applicable: No. Here’s why…
1. Not to insult your blog, but I don’t think you’re trying to compete with Huffington or New York Times. At least, I’m not. So this is an invalid reason for shutting down the blog.
2. Your blog is personal. Why? It’s Ben Simpson. Well, it’s more thoughtful and insightful Ben – the Ben I would like to have I known at Baylor if I were the person then I am now…we would have had several good conversations. Corporate blogs are obviously impersonal, however, the trend of corporations taking market share in the blogosphere doesn’t impact the personality of your own blog. I think your focus is to interact with people in your community (not geographically but relationally), so this shouldn’t be an issue.
3. I just don’t understand Twitter. I need to do some research. Maybe it’s great.
4. You can easily hose multimedia content on the blog – so, while this is also great on facebook, it doesn’t in anyway speak against the blog.
Interesting article. I left the comment as follows on that article, “Funny. I would not have found this article if it were not for a blog who linked to it.”
All are valid communication tools. I must admit I only read those blogs that interest me for two reasons:
1. I am interested in the subject matter specifically here are a few:
Lean Green Family http://suddenlyfrugal.blogspot.com/
Year of Crockpotting http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/
One Dollar Water http://www.onedollarwater.com/blog/
Ordinary Radicals http://www.theordinaryradicals.com/blog/
Advent Conspiracy http://www.adventconspiracy.org/blog/
2. I know the person and enjoy reading their writing (you [Bennigan] and these to name a few):

As for ‘commercial blogs? Blah, I ignore them as they become tiresome. I do not need to increase my ‘add exposure’.
Will there be a leveling out? Of course. When the commercial blogs realize traffic is elsewhere, they will wane even more…and pick up in such places as Facebook, where ads are not ‘blooming’ It is only a matter of time before Twitter, Plurk, or Ping.fm ads flourish. Nothing like the din of consumerism to kill the creative spark.
