Depends what you want to use it for
I would highly reccomend going to a PC shop and having a good play with a Mac – that way you will know if it is a) for you and b) if you can live with the limitations *ducks.
OSX is a good OS, just I can’t get on with the HIDs on the Macbook so I went for a Vista laptop, best decision I ever made
Hope that helps
I use a Mac for work (in publishing), so I got a Macbook when my old PC laptop bit the dust after 2.38 years of use. Thus far, I would definitely recommend the Mac over the PC, even though the Mac is more expensive. However, it should last 3 times longer than a PC, on average.
A couple of snags (sort of) with the Mac:
1. I have OSX and I really, really like it. However, it won’t run Publisher, unless you get Windows on put the PC version on the Mac, but then you have to deal with Windows (boo). Publisher is pretty weak, imo, and I much prefer InDesign for desktop publishing. But, for people who don’t really have to do that much in desktop publishing, Publisher is typically the software of choice.
2. If you accidentally hit “Apple + F5″, your Mac will start talking to you and announcing every little thing your mouse clicks on. This can be every annoying if you don’t know about the Apple-F5 combo and, therefore, cannot figure out how to make it stop talking and end up putting up with it for over 3 days before you figure out what happened. Purely hypothetical example, of course.
3. If you’re switching from a PC, you either have to buy new software that is Mac compatible, get the free stuff online, or buy Windows and put it on your Mac.
On the plus side, Macs are faster, less buggy, last longer, and, if all that weren’t enough, the keyboard lights up in low-light settings.
